Groupement en un seul de plusieurs états dont chacun est régi par ses lois particulières.

Il signifie aussi Groupement en une seule de plusieurs sociétés visant un but commun. Fédération des syndicats du bâtiment.

Il s’est dit particulièrement de la Première réunion des députés de toutes les gardes nationales et de tous les corps de l’armée, qui se fit au Champ de Mars, à Paris, le 14 juillet 1790. La fête de la Fédération.
